The Australian beauty brand’s kit has a new look and a new range of gender-neutral plant-based products

It’s over with the old and made way for Tasmanian spring water, wild roselle and Kakadu plum extract for Melbourne-based beauty brand Kit. The previously discontinued brand – one of Mecca’s brands – is reborn as a thoughtful collection of 15 vegan-friendly products using 100% certified natural fragrances.

Although the name is the same, Kit’s new range is all about going back to basics with skincare. “The skin is much more than what’s on the outside,” says Marita Burke, managing director of Mecca-Maginations, the Mecca subsidiary that relaunched the brand. “It’s about who we are and how we feel as individuals. That’s why we launched Kit with consciously crafted formulas and a laser focus on skin and body, with innovative new products that champion naturally-derived ingredients and new botanical technologies.

There’s the Mineral Water Cleanser, made with Tasmanian spring water (a natural source of mineral electrolytes, Burke says); the melatonin night balm, scented with myrrh and lavender; a vitamin C-rich concentrate made from Kakadu plum, ascorbic acid and bengkoang; Universal Face Lotion, formulated with Centella asiatica and pumpkin seed extract; and a tube of Wonder Balm for face, lips and body, made with organic cocoa butter, moringa oil and sea buckthorn oil (an anti-inflammatory).

Kit’s products use Australian botanicals as well as those overseas, and there are no parabens and phthalates, SLS, SLES, synthetic dyes or animal-derived ingredients in the entire range. It’s “lab coat meets nature,” says Burke.

Kit is also aware of its environmental footprint. All of its cardboard packaging is recyclable, made from paper certified by the Forest Stewardship Council and printed with soy-based inks. Its glass and aluminum packaging can be recycled thanks to Mecca’s Terracycle partnership. And the company has pledged to offset its plastic footprint through the Waste Revolution, which collects or recycles plastic on behalf of the brand when it deems plastic use unavoidable.
