Miraclon, home of Kodak Flexcel Solutions, recently announced spot color support for PureFlexo printing. Delivered as a new feature set for the Kodak Flexcel NX Print Suite for flexible packaging, this announcement enables flexible packaging printers to extend the economic benefits of PureFlexo printing to volume anilox applications higher. Introduced in 2021 for process printing, PureFlexo Printing controls the spread of unwanted ink. It allows greater latitude on the press to meet today’s high-quality expectations of brand customers while maximizing throughput and plant efficiency. It reduces unscheduled press downtime and ultimately improves business bottom lines. It is in line with Miraclon’s commitment to providing a steady stream of innovation to its customers.

“PureFlexo printing is enabled by unique multifunctional plate surface patterns designed to precisely control ink flow during printing. The rigorously tested and patented set of technologies now includes surface patterns with edge effects specifically designed to handle the ink flow characteristics of spot color inks,” says Dr. advanced printing at Miraclon. “When higher anilox volumes are used for larger pigment-based traditional spot colors, it generally results in harder bands, higher print and other common printing practices for s adapt to higher anilox volumes. These practices often produce undesirable print effects such as halo, dirty print and TEV (trailing edge void). At the same time, higher ink volumes also have greater drying requirements, causing the flexographic printing process to be slower to increase drying capacity. PureFlexo Printing addresses all of these typical issues to ensure better uptime and consistency on press.

The Covid-19 pandemic led to the nationwide lockdown on March 25, 2020. It will be two years tomorrow as I write this. What have we learned during this time? Perhaps the sense of resilience as small businesses like ours have had to rely on our resources and the forbearance of our employees as we struggled to produce our business platforms.

The printing and packaging industries have been lucky, although the commercial printing industry has yet to recover. We learned about the digital transformation affecting commercial printing and packaging. Ultimately, digital will help print grow in a country where we are still far behind in our paper and print consumption and where digital is an advanced technology that will only increase the demand for print for the foreseeable future.

Web analytics show that we now have readership in North America and Europe among the 90 countries where our five platforms are present. Our traffic, which more than doubled in 2020, sometimes increased by another 50% in 2021. And advertising, which had collapsed in 2020 and 2021, began to come back in January 2022.

As the economy approaches real growth with irregularities and shortages, we look forward to the PrintPack India exhibition in Greater Noida. We are again mandated to produce the Show Daily over the five days of the show from May 26 to 30, 2022.

Now is a good time to support our high-impact reporting and authoritative, technical information with some of the best correspondents in the industry. Readers can contribute to Packaging South Asia’s balanced industry journalism and help support us by subscribing.
