Library News: Week of August 7, 2022 – The Globe

WORTHINGTON — The Nobles County Library, 407 12th St., Worthington, is open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. The Adrian Branch Library, 214 Maine Ave., Adrian, is open 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

From the director of the library: The Nobles County Library is looking for historical, cultural, or personal collections to fill our display case in our lobby. The objects will be exhibited in this locked showcase for a month. If you would like to show your collection, please speak to Beth to make arrangements.

Library Board Member Wanted: The Nobles County Library Board is seeking a Library Board Member. If you are passionate about the library and looking for a way to serve your community, then we need you. Please contact Library Director Beth Sorenson with any questions.

Library Book Club Friends: The next meeting will be August 22 at 6 p.m. We will discuss the book “Passing” by Nella Larsen. Everyone is welcome to join.

Monthly Book View: Each month a theme is chosen and displayed at the front. We featured graduation books, Spanish language books, and graphic novels. This month features large-print beach readings.

New kits for children: We now have two Magna-Tile kits and a cooking kit that have been added to the library collection. These kits help develop social skills, teach math and science concepts while allowing children to explore and create. They are available to be queued and can be checked out for a week.

New children’s books: The library now has five new spoken books in English, Spanish, Tagalog and Arabic. Stop by the library and find one.

Summer Reading Program: Summer Reading Program Carnival with games and a chance to buy prizes at the library store, 1-3 p.m. August 10. Nobles County Library Lawn. For children of all ages. Come play games, win prizes and enjoy some goodies.

The library store will remain open while supplies last. The last day is August 26. Be sure to turn in your summer reading papers and library money to pick your prizes!

Special Youth Events at Adrian

Story time: 12:10 p.m. to 12:50 p.m. every Wednesday. Listen to stories, sing songs, and learn rhymes that spark a love of reading and learning.

Art with McKenzie will take place from 1 to 2:15 p.m. on August 17. Students will gain creative confidence and have fun as McKenzie shares her talent and passion for art.

Pleasure at the library: 1 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. August 10, 24 and 31. Crafts, bingo and board games; free for the public.

Don’t forget to record your reading in your summer diaries before August 19th. A holiday for those who have completed their journals is August 23.
