Corrugated packaging converter Carlisle Container invests in EFI Nozomi 14000 LED digital press to cut lead times from weeks to days

Pennsylvania packaging company chooses market-leading single-pass digital inkjet technology to grow with more efficient high-graphics packaging and display production

FREMONT, Calif., Sept. 20, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Carlisle container Company, a corrugated packaging converter founded in 1965, will significantly reduce turnaround times and increase efficiency with the acquisition of an EFI™ Nozomi 14000 LED single pass inkjet corrugated packaging press Electronics for Imaging, Inc. The company will install the new press in a facility adjacent to its main plant which is scheduled to open in early 2023.

Located near Carlisle, Pennsylvania’s major trucking routes, the company serves numerous regional distribution centers and warehouses clustered in the Cumberland Valley transportation corridor. Carlisle Container is bringing more innovation and efficiency to these businesses with Nozomi technology, the world’s first digital corrugated printing solution.

A new era for Carlisle and its customers
The Nozomi 14000 LED press is an important next step towards growth for a packaging company that has long appreciated the impact that digital can have. “We implemented digital printing from day one, acquiring our first VUTEk® printer in 2004,” said Diane Wolf, CEO of Carlisle Container. “At the time, we could print eight to ten 4 x 8 foot sheets per hour, and over time we’ve updated the technology to keep increasing throughput and quality. The Nozomi was the next logical step for us, and it will be a game changer.

Today, digital printing in the business is currently focused on very small orders and samples on the company’s EFI VUTEk printing equipment, with the bulk of Carlisle Container’s revenue coming from converting plain brown boxes. However, executives at the certified woman-owned business are seeing growing customer demand for ready-to-use packaging and displays. Carlisle Container has relied on litho lamination for highly graphic packaging, but analog litho requires large minimum order quantities and long lead times.

Up to 80% reduction in lead times
Currently, turnaround times for litho lamination work at the company range from four to six weeks. “With the Nozomi,” Wolf said, “we think that will be reduced to an average of 7-10 days. That’s a huge improvement. Last year we bought over 75,000 lithographic labels, and everything it will convert very quickly to digital.

Many flexo packaging jobs at Carlisle Container will also be more efficient and cost effective to print digitally once the Nozomi printer is installed. “All flexo boxes that have three or four colors or are coated will go digital. Reducing setup time, eliminating the need to sometimes run two passes, and improving print quality are just some of the other features that make this so important,” explained Wolf. “We expect our volumes from Nozomi to grow rapidly with the current type of work we do, as well as new work that we weren’t able to attract before.”

Game-changing technology for high-quality wavy graphics
The 55-inch (1.4 meter) wide digital press operates at exceptional speed – at speeds of up to 328 linear feet (100 linear meters) per minute using new productivity modes – delivering long-lasting performance in heavy industrial operations, directly on board, on almost any type of streamer. The 14000 LED model also offers superior color registration and the award-winning image quality of Nozomi presses.

Durability is a key advantage of the Nozomi 14000 LED printer, as it gives converters and brands the ability to digitally print high-quality graphic packaging in the exact quantities needed – a stark contrast to significant overproduction and wastage. of analog litho-lamination preparation. EFI Nozomi technology leads the corrugated board market in digital printing energy efficiency, based on data from printing research organization Fogra, and its printed output is certified for repulpability and recyclability by Western Michigan University’s Recycling, Paper, and Coating Pilot Plant.

EFI Fire® The NZ-1000 blade server digital front end (DFE) used to drive the press utilizes the latest Fiery FS500 platform technology, delivering high-end color management, exceptional imaging accuracy and intelligent automation features . fiery edge™, EFI’s advanced profiling technology on the DFE, delivers out-of-the-box color and quality enhancements. Additionally, EFI Fiery JobExpert™ included with the DFE can save valuable job setup time by automatically choosing the right color and imaging settings to ensure correct results.

Carlisle Container will use its Nozomi 14000 LED press to streamline its current work and create new market opportunities. The versatile single-pass inkjet solution also gives the company a solid production option for high-volume signage and offers significant personalization and personalization capabilities useful for the growing label box market. e-commerce subscription.

Comparing the Nozomi to the company’s current digital print operations, Wolf noted, “With subscription boxes, it’s all about how fast you can deliver. And when you go from 48 linear feet per minute to 328 linear feet, it’s night and day.

With high-capacity digital capabilities coming, Wolf also said she was having very different and promising conversations with clients and prospects. “When I go into a business and tell them I can cut their delivery time from six weeks to six days, and oh, by the way, you can have profitable runs of 1,000, customers immediately recognize how point it presents them with a lot more choice.”

“This is the first Nozomi baler purchased in the mid-Atlantic, and our team is looking forward to helping Carlisle Container grow with our industry-leading technology and the business development services we provide to help users to show the value of digital to their customers and prospects. said Evandro Matteucci, Vice President, Packaging and Building Materials, EFI. “Diane and her team will create exciting opportunities by delivering everything possible with this highly advanced, single-pass Nozomi 14000 LED solution, developed specifically for the production needs of traditional converter packaging.”
