Guwahati (Assam) [India]June 4 (ANI): Reacting to allegations of irregularities in the supply of PPE kits, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the PPE kits had been “offered to the government” and that his wife’s company “didn’t charge” for it.
Taking to Twitter, Hemanta Biswa Sarma released a clarifying statement addressed to Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia.
He wrote: “At this point in the COVID wave, we in Assam had no PPE kits. After strenuous efforts, my wife managed to bring in some past life saving kits. Although the NHM issued an order, the company issued no invoice and the kits were donated to the government.
“Not a single penny has been exchanged, where is the corruption?” he added.
Sisodia tweeted tagging an invoice to JCB Industries from NHM-Assam Mission Manager S Lakshmanan.
He wrote: “Honourable Chief Minister @himantabiswa ji! Here is your wife’s contract to buy 5000 kits in the name of JCB Industries at 990/- the kit… Tell me, is this paper fake? Isn’t it bribery to give your wife’s business a purchase order as health minister? »
To this, Sarma said: “Due to a severe shortage at the time, all governments, including yours, waived the tender process for PPE and opted for direct procurement. “
“Don’t choose from half the documents. Have the courage to put all the facts. Don’t show half a documentary track, have the courage to put all the facts? Sarma added.
In his clarification, the CM of Assam said earlier, “At a time when the whole country was facing the worst pandemic in over 100 years, Assam had virtually no PPE kits. My wife was brave enough to come forward and donated around 1,500 PPE kits for free to the government to save lives. She didn’t take a single penny.
Sisodia alleged on Saturday that when Sarma was state health minister in 2020, he gave orders for PPE kits to the companies of his wife and son’s business partner.
He said: “Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma gave government orders to his wife and son’s business partner companies in 2020 for PPE kits while he (CM) was then Minister of Health. An elected CM has engaged in such corrupt activities, will the BJP put him behind bars?
Sarma also warned the Deputy CM of Delhi to take legal action. “Stop preaching and I will see you soon in Guwahati as you will face criminal libel,” Sarma warned.
Rinku Bhuyan Sarma, wife of Himanta Biswa Sarma, also took to Twitter to provide clarification on Sisodia’s allegations.
She wrote: “During the first week of the pandemic, not a single PPE kit was available with Assam. Knowing the same, I contacted a business acquaintance and delivered about 1500 PPE kits to NHM with great effort. I later wrote to the NHM to address the same as part of my CSR.
“I haven’t taken a penny off the supply. I have always been transparent about my belief in giving back to society, regardless of my husband’s political stance,” she added. (ANI)
